It's amazing! Some folks are... Always learning, yet never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. Second Timothy 3.7 The human intellect seeks after rest, but by nature seeks after it apart from discovering the Lord Jesus Christ. Great minds and educators tend to view the simplicity of the cross with eyes that hold little reverence or love for God.

A great temptation for people of refined thought and high education [the so-called intelligentsia] is to depart from the simple truth of the crucified Christ, and to invent a more *intellectual* system. This infatuation with human rationalization led a number of the early Christian churches into a system of false teaching known as *Gnosticism*.

The Gnostics pretty much believed that salvation could be gained by having a lot of knowledge. Those who fancied themselves as being *Intellectual Elites* got together and studied their way right past the cross. As stated earlier, they were... Always learning, yet never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. Second Timothy 3.7

Whoever you are -- whatever your education may be -- if you belong to God, be assured you will find no rest in philosophizing Christianity. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. As it is written, "God catches the wise in their own craftiness." First Corinthians 3.19

From reading or television or whatever, you may receive deep dogma by one great thinker, or a revelation from another -- but what the chaff is to the wheat, so will these things be to the "pure milk of the Word." 1 Peter 2.2 From the get-go, God foresaw that pride in human intellect would take many of us past the cross, and down a road leading to idolatrous worship of knowledge itself. Thus, although it is now nearly two millennia since God established His church, He still commands us to take communion "in remembrance of Christ.” 1 Cor 11.24

If our great God and Savior should tarry for a while longer [let's say another 2000 years] then it still will be then, as it is now, a trustworthy statement deserving full acceptance... Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. First Timothy 1.15

Jesus Himself will satisfy the most elevated intellect when He is received and obeyed. However, apart from Christ, neither the unregenerate NOR the regenerate will find rest for their minds.
